Using OrgSync

Getting Started

Step 1: Log in to OrgSync here using your net ID and password.
Step 2: Set up your account.
Step 3: Explore clubs and opportunities!

Read the information below for detailed steps on completing these 3 steps.

When you log in to OrgSync for the first time, you're asked to complete your profile, including your primary E-mail address, cell phone number, address, and birthday. We recommend providing a phone number to make the most of OrgSync, a birthday if you like to celebrate, and a clear photo of your face to get recognized.

Entering an address is not necessary and not encouraged. Keep in mind: by default, people will be able to see your cell phone number and birthday; however, they will not be able to see your address. You can change these settings and you can update your profile at any time.

To edit your profile, click your avatar (photo) in the top-right corner of the screen and select "My Profile."

Receiving Text Messages

OrgSync provides powerful tools for organizations to communicate effectively among members. You can control the types of messages you receive in Notification Settings. Click your avatar, then select "Settings."

OSL strongly recommends enabling both General notification settings to allow organizations to communicate with you by E-mail and one-way text message. Note that text messages can only be sent by organization officers - there is no risk of a "reply all" nightmare or SPAM from non-officers. Text messages through OrgSync are sent on behalf of the organization are best suited for reminders: Don't forget, meeting tonight at 7pm in the usual spot. Bring food to share!

The same settings screen offers a long list of further notification settings and is worth reviewing from time to time.

Privacy Settings

By default, your address will not be visible to other OrgSync users. However, you can also edit the visibility of your E-mail address and cell phone number without changing the overall functionality of OrgSync.

To change these settings, click your avatar, then select "Settings." Select "Privacy Settings" from the menu on the left.

Finding Clubs to Join

OrgSync allows you to browse and search the 500+ registered campus organizations at UCSB.

Search
The easiest way to find something on OrgSync is by using the Search bar at the top of the screen. Search results will include portals (organization homepages) and news posts. Got an interest in mind? Type it in and explore what's offered.

Browse
Browsing is a great way to find organizations if you're not sure what to search for, or if you're not having any luck finding what you're looking for in search results. To browse organizations, simply:

Method A - Select "Organizations" on the Community Home screen when you first log in to OrgSync.

Method B - Select "All Memberships" and then click "Browse Other Organizations" from the My Memberships menu at the top of the screen. (On smaller screens, this menu appears as an icon without the text label.)

The Browse Organizations screen allows you to search for organizations by name or keyword, as well as to browse by organization name or category.

Found some organizations you're interested in? Great!

How To Join a Club

Once you've found a club to join, it's time to learn more about it and join! Clubs manage their rosters and membership processes differently, so there is no one "right way" to join. Here are some tips:

  1. Get to know organizations by attending their meetings and events, as well as spending time with their members. Most students try out a few different organizations before finding one or more that they're interested in participating in regularly.

If the organization's portal is public, you might be able to view its regular meeting time/location (in the organization profile) and/or its upcoming events (in the Events tab). The meeting time/location in the profile isn't always up-to-date, so be sure to reach out to an officer to confirm before attending. See #2!

  2. Reach out to organization officers by E-mail if you are interested in joining their club. (Officer information is updated every fall quarter. You might find that officer information is outdated or incomplete during the first few weeks of fall quarter.)

Officers are listed in the "Current Positions" box in the organization portal. Click an officer's name or avatar to view their profile, including E-mail address. You can even send a message to the officer straight from their profile screen.

  3. Join organizations on OrgSync! This helps organizations maintain accurate membership rosters and keep in touch with you. You can leave an organization at any time, and you can also hide your membership in an organization from public view.

This is where things get exciting! To join an organization, select "Settings," then the green "Join Now" button in the organization's portal.

Unable to Join Now? Organizations can limit their membership in specific ways. Some organizations are invite-only based on criteria (GPA, national organization membership, selection), application-based (join by request), or password restricted (obtain the join password from a current member or officer).

Important: While organizations can limit their membership based on certain criteria (GPA, interview criteria, etc.), UCSB-recognized organizations cannot limit membership on the basis of identity characteristics, including but not limited to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, physical or mental disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services. Fraternities and Sororities, as well as certain Title IX-Exempt organizations, are permitted to limit participation by sex only. If you feel you have been denied access to an organization unfairly, please contact us.
