Fraternities & Sororities: Standards of Excellence (SOE)

The University of California, Santa Barbara believes that the fraternity and sorority experience is both educationally and socially enriching and contributes to the overall sense of community on campus. While many fraternities and sororities provide this experience to their members, it is essential to develop benchmarks and expectations to ensure that all members have the opportunity to enhance their collegiate experience.

The Fraternity & Sorority Standards of Excellence program (SOE) is a program designed by the UCSB Office of Student Life to provide to set educational, community service and philanthropy requirements for each member of the Fraternity & Sorority Community at UCSB. As members of the Greek Community at UCSB, it is each individual member’s responsibility to attend 1-2 educational workshops and complete 6 hours of community service per quarter as part of the Standards of Excellence program.

SOE serves as the annual recognition process for all fraternities and sororities at UCSB. Chapters that do NOT meet minimum SOE requirements may lose recognition with the University of California, Santa Barbara.
