Shoreline Handbook

Testimonial from EOP

For the first time in its 40+ year history, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Summer Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP) was held remotely in a fully-virtual environment. From August 17-26, 2020, 140 incoming first-year EOP students participated in math and writing courses, network-building social activities, and various campus department presentations. Shoreline (UCSB Campus Groups) served as our program "home hub" and its various services were vital to the successful and effective implementation of the program.

Here are just some of the key ways Shoreline was used during STEP by staff and participants:
  • Events: Event marketing, registration, attendance tracking, virtual event management, surveys/feedback.
  • Communication: via email and chat with staff and participants.
    • Emails were sent to all participants as well as those we "tagged" using the Shoreline tag function. This streamlined targeted messaging. For example, students were tagged by college and major, as well as by the "virtual hall" they were placed into.
    • Group Page Feed- students posted questions/concerns and words of encouragement for their peers as well as staff. Staff posted event changes and program updates/reminders.
  • Program Calendar: Participants used the Shoreline calendar to find event details for mandatory events as well as to find optional events. Staff used the calendar to house links to our virtual training (on Zoom) leading up to STEP.
  • Participants downloaded the mobile app to receive push notifications in real-time regarding event changes or reminders.
Shoreline proved to be user-friendly for incoming frosh students that had never used it before. The look of the events and interface is professional and clear and the email client features many helpful and engaging features.

STEP 2020 participants left the program with a network of support composed of their peers as well as UCSB staff and faculty that will assist them in their transition to UCSB. We look forward to reuniting in person when the time comes! EOP would like to send a huge thank you to our colleagues in SEAL as well as to all of our campus partners for their continued collaborative support!
