Commencement will take place during the weekend of June 13-14, 2020.

STEP 1: DECLARE CANDIDACY FOR OFFICIAL DEGREE

In order to officially graduate, students must declare candidacy on GOLD even if they are not planning to participate in a commencement ceremony. Refer to the Graduation tab on GOLD. The following deadlines apply:

Spring 2020
February 18, 2020 through April 13, 2020

Summer 2020
February 18, 2020 through July 6, 2020

Fall 2020
February 18, 2020 through October 12, 2020

For more information, refer to the Office of the Registrar (http://registrar.sa.ucsb.edu/candidacy.aspx). Detailed information on the entire graduation process (declaring candidacy, completing degree requirements, degree audit and evaluation, diplomas, undergraduate honors, etc.) can be found at http://registrar.sa.ucsb.edu/gradinfo.aspx.

STEP 2: MAKE A COMMENCEMENT RESERVATION

In order to participate in a commencement ceremony, students must reserve a spot. Seniors in the College of Letters and Science and College of Engineering declaring degree candidacy in 2020 who wish to participate in commencement must make a reservation for their major ceremony using GOLD beginning February 18, 2020.  Students may only make a reservation for the ceremony associated with their declared major.

Note: This is the only time you can make a commencement reservation in 2020. For information on commencement reservations and deadlines please visit the Event Management & Protocol's Commencement page.

*DO NOT MAKE ANY PLANS BASED ON A PARTICULAR CEREMONY UNTIL YOU HAVE A CONFIRMED RESERVATION ON GOLD.

REGALIA (CAP AND GOWN) & ANNOUNCEMENTS

The UCSB Campus Store (http://campusstore.ucsb.edu/home) will open a Commencement Graduation Center during winter quarter where specific information on regalia, announcements, class rings, diploma frames and related items may be obtained. Grad Packs will be available online for purchase and caps and gowns will be available individually for purchase in the store.

STAGE PASS DISTRIBUTION

All seniors who have declared candidacy and reserved a spot in their designated ceremony will need to pick up their Stage Pass for Commencement. This stage pass is the student's ticket in to their ceremony - without it, they will not be permitted to cross the stage.

  • Stage passes are available for pickup from Monday, June 8, 2020  through Friday, June 12, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the University Center Lobby.
  • If you cannot pick up your stage pass during finals week, they will be available for pickup outside the Event Center (Thunderdome) before each Commencement ceremony. Please note: We HIGHLY recommend picking up your stage pass during finals week as lines tend to be long at distribution tables during Commencement weekend.
